The sunset at Playa Rajada was one of the most stunning I’ve seen on a beach, even though it was October, the rainy low season. My partner and I had come to this part of Guanacaste after hearing the beach was beautiful, and spent the evening there. For dinner afterward we followed a recommendation to Punta Descartes Restaurant. It had a rustic, warm atmosphere, with boleros playing in the background, which made the meal feel romantic. My medium-well sirloin tip with mushroom and jalapeño sauce was cooked perfectly, and the food was great. Service was attentive and ready to help. If you visit during the day, you can enjoy a lovely sea view from the balcony.

The relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff made the visit even better. The food was excellent too. The sunset view is absolutely stunning, one of the best spots around. I’d happily return anytime and highly recommend it for watching the sunset.

I had a reservation for two beds, but was given a tiny room with one bed and something they called a cot. I tried to accept it and settle in, then found the soap dispenser empty when I went to shower. The gentleman working was pretty helpful, and the restaurant view is spectacular. The only reason I’m giving two stars is that they were kind enough to refund me after I said I was leaving. I wanted to enjoy my stay, but I definitely wouldn’t try again.

The food was great, and the service was excellent, going above and beyond. The atmosphere and views were amazing too. Definitely worth the little drive off the main road.

We just needed somewhere in La Cruz to sleep and shower on the way to Dreams Las Mareas, so booked with Chase Points. It was listed as a 3-star hotel, and we thought one night couldn’t be that bad. We were wrong. The patio view was tremendous day and night, and the restaurant food was good. The room was awful: black mold covered the bathroom walls, the AC wouldn’t go below 25, dirt or dust coated everything, and mosquitoes and other bugs were inside. I even watched a worm crawl out of the bathroom wall behind the toilet. We stayed 16 hours and couldn’t leave fast enough.
