Alpha Arenal - Hostel

We ended up staying 19 nights at Alpha Arenal after my concussion got worse again before we arrived, and we loved it. Wilson, the manager, was incredibly helpful and understanding about my situation, and always happy to chat. The kitchen was well equipped, and there were comfy lounge chairs and hammocks for relaxing. From the first floor, we spotted amazing birds in the forest beside the road, including a kingfisher, tiger heron, caracaras, toucans and many others. When the sky was clear, we could see the volcano, too. Wilson can arrange tours at good prices, which was really handy. We'll definitely come back someday.

For the price, this was decent for a two-night stay, with delicious breakfast and coffee in generous portions. The reception manager went out of his way to arrange excellent tours at excellent prices. The location is great: off the main road, quiet, felt safe, and a 2in walk to the main restaurants. My room opened right beside reception on the main floor, so I didn't feel safe leaving the windows open. It got VERY stuffy, and in the humid climate nothing would dry. The fans helped me sleep, but the hostel didn't really have comfortable, quality places to lounge or hang out, so there wasn't much ambience.

From the staff to the tours, everything made for an amazing time in La Fortuna. There aren't many places where you find this kind of passion and real costarican adventure. Highly recommended!

The staff worked hard to keep everything clean, which I appreciated most. I had an absolutely amazing time at this hostel, with great tours arranged at reception every day. A sloth had made itself at home in our garden, a lovely little bonus. Honestly, I can't think of anything to complain about.
