Hotel San Bosco

This is a good-value hotel in central La Fortuna, within walking distance of anywhere downtown. The breakfast is authentic, coffee is available all day, and there's a nice swimming pool. They also offer a free thermal spring visit at their sister hotel, which is closer to Arenal Volcano.

Breakfast was really good and there was plenty of it. The room was super clean, and the front desk was always very helpful. I felt secure the whole time. It's incredibly close to downtown and all the tour operators.

The room with three beds cost the same when I searched for two people as it did for three, and my Booking.com reservation clearly showed two adults and one child. Still, when we arrived, staff said their system showed only two people and charged us another 13,000 for an "extra person." I had booked online three times, each time listing two adults and a child, and showed them the booking. They ignored the issue with their system and charged us more. It felt like bait and switch, and the service was horrible. I was too tired to fight it or leave for another hotel, though I would have gone elsewhere if I hadn't been exhausted.

The breakfast was exceptionally good. We also liked the comfortable beds, spotless rooms, rocking chairs on the patio, and the lounge with free coffee. The hotel is centrally located and makes a perfect starting point for an Arenal adventure. Make time to visit partner hotel Volcano lodge for free and enjoy the hot springs.
