After a week inland, being right by the ocean with forest behind us was just what I wanted. I loved hearing the monkeys and all kinds of birds nearby. The grounds felt open and roomy, the staff were welcoming, and there was plenty of food to choose from. I’d seen older comments about recycling, but that’s improved now. Nothing’s perfect, but this was a lovely few days for enjoying Costa Rica’s wildlife and beach. Definitely recommend.

The property itself is beautiful, and most things looked clean and well kept. The rooms were okay, except for a hole in the wall, mold on the curtains, and bugs getting onto my friend’s toothbrush. Service was awful. Some employees were kind, while others came across as rude and arrogant, like they didn’t want to be there. Our internet was unreliable, and some activities seemed neglected, with places like the archery and rock climbing areas abandoned. The worst part was my friend’s birthday dinner. We had booked the Japanese restaurant for 7:30 pm, but staff said there’d been a mistake and sent us to the Italian restaurant instead. They couldn’t fit us into the Japanese one because they’d booked someone else after we got up at 7 am to make the reservation. It ruined what was meant to be the most important part of the trip. The place has a lot going for it, but it could do better.

This was our fourth visit, and sadly it’ll be the last. The food didn’t impress me, and neither did the live show. The entertainer was so loud. They used to have dancers and better entertainment, but the resort seems to be slipping. We didn’t feel the day was worth what we paid. The owner should put some money into improving the place.

The buffet is the same every time, and the food quality has slipped. Evening shows used to have dancers, a band, and comedy. Now it’s just one guy yelling into a microphone for two hours, enough to give you a headache. This place has gone downhill. Consider other options.

I’m from Guatemala, and I was happy here. This was my second stay, and I had a great time, so I’d love to come back. The rooms and hotel were very nice, the food was delicious whether from the buffet or snack bar, and the pool was cool. It wasn’t perfect, but it was all good. There were lots of activities for kids too, which I liked even though we don’t have children. Tambor Town is also a great place to spend some time. A few things could make the experience better. The pool and snack bars were always crowded, so another bar would help. Maybe the reception bar could open too. It was very hot, and some fans for the bar staff might help them stay comfortable and keep a good attitude. The restaurant booking system was frustrating. An online option, perhaps available a week before the stay, would be much better than having to wait until 5 or 6 in the morning to get a reservation for 8. The alcohol should be normal. I know many people don’t know how to drink, but we saw a fight by the pool, which shows that whether the alcohol is good or bad doesn’t matter. That’s why there’s security to watch for people doing something wrong. The transfer from Barcelo Tambor to Barcelo San jose needs improvement too. It was expensive, I had to ride standing, and I carried my big luggage to the ferry, which was tiring. These are just suggestions. I know they could make a few small changes for a better stay.
