The host was kind about letting us stay just one night instead of the two we’d booked, and only charged us for one. There’s a pleasant place to relax, with room to hang a hammock. But it’s right on the town’s busiest street, and the bathroom trash was already full when we arrived even though we were the only guests. The sheets were too small, so we wound up sleeping straight on the mattress. We stopped on the way to Montezuma hoping to find somewhere less touristy, but I’d say skip it.

We only stayed one night, but the hostel is well maintained and cozy, and Maura was always around if anything came up. Our room was clean and pleasant, with two windows and a ceiling fan. The quiet location helped us sleep well, and the bed, sheets, and towels smelled nice. The shared bathroom was clean and had hot water. There are hammocks, a TV room, a shared kitchen, and secure parking, too.

A cozy hostel with clean rooms and bathrooms, a big kitchen for cooking, and laundry they’ll do for free. The owner is a really nice PURA VIDA guy, and this was the cheapest hostel around with a great vibe. We went with his brother, who has a boat, to Isla Tortuga for just $23 each. We spent the whole day there and they provided snorkeling gear. It’s also a great base for traveling around.

José and Pepe made me feel at home and like part of their family. I can’t thank them enough for that, or for helping me arrange tours and letting me try the delicious food they made. This was my favorite place in all Costa Rica, with the best hosts. I loved Paquera and the people there. There’s lots to discover nearby, and the area still feels authentic. Don’t miss staying there, and take a bioluminescence tour. I hope I can come back one day.

A great little hostel run by a Tico and his sons. They’re generous and will help with whatever you need. The food is cheap, and if you’re nice, you might get a smoothie for free. Laundry in the washing machine is free as well.
