We booked at the last minute while driving from San Jose to the Osa Peninsula on vacation in late December 2019. I wish we'd planned ahead and stayed longer. The location is beautiful, breakfast was included and delicious, and the pools were lovely. The kids especially liked the small whirlpool pool. The long dirt road in was a bit challenging, though compared with the rest of our trip around CR, it was nothing. Don't let the steep slope or bumpy road put you off; it's a short drive for a great payoff. We stayed in a private luxury villa, and the tent houses looked nice too. It's a secluded mountaintop spot, so light pollution or noise didn't seem like an issue, apart from other guests. I'd consider booking a tent if we're lucky enough to return. There's a tower you can climb for amazing views, and a chocolate farm tour was about 10 minutes away. We used this as our starting point to drive to Bahia Drake in the big truck we rented. Don't try that trip in a car! Avatar gets five stars from me for clean, friendly, gorgeous units and an amazing location.

The views are beautiful, the rooms are just right, and the owner is so lovely. The chef is amazing too; I had the best burger I've had in months. My family and I spent three weeks travelling around costa rica in January, and Avatar was our favourite by far, even after stays at cheap eco lodges and very expensive nature reserves. I'm very late writing this! It was such a good mix of comfort and luxury with adventure and wildlife. We saw three kinds of monkeys while swinging on our swings over our private pool, then watched parrots fly over from the hot tub in the evening. The owner recommended a tour, and we had the best day, seeing vampire bats, monkeys, sloths, reptiles, and countless rare birds. We loved it so much that we also did a night tour for bioluminescence, which was a night to remember. We had planned just a couple of nights, but after a bad experience at another lodge we arrived early, and the owner kindly let us stay ahead of schedule in a beautiful room. We're hoping to return to Costa Rica, and we'll definitely come back here. The furniture and decor are so beautiful, and I now have a Boruca mask from Avatar proudly displayed in my room. The only thing I'd suggest is air conditioning or a bigger fan in the rooms. Otherwise, perfection :)

The jungle sounds, day and night, and the view of the neighboring National Park Corcovado and the ocean make this a memorable place. Avatar Eco Lodge is a unique resort in a unique setting, right in the middle of the jungle. If you want to experience something completely different, you should visit Avatar Eco Lodge in Costa Rica. I've been here several times, even before the soft opening, and saw the place from its very beginning. I'm amazed by how beautiful it is now 😉👍

We had such a great stay that I'd almost rather keep this place secret! Just know it's glamping. There's a roof and deck, but the walls are tent fabric and the shower is outdoors, so bugs are part of the deal if that bothers you. The views from the rooms are amazing, and there's a little staircase in the main area for an even better lookout. Food is included and really good. It's pescatarian, and they're very accommodating if you're vegetarian or vegan, just let them know. We hiked all day at Corcovado and they even packed us lunch, though it wasn't very filling, so I'd bring extra snacks. The lodge is about 25 minutes from downtown, reached by around 10 minutes on an unpaved gravel road. That drive felt kind of scary in the dark, and it makes coming and going difficult, so be ready not to want to leave much. A couple of small issues, like the hot water not working, weren't fixed right away by maintenance. They're new, so I imagine they'll work those things out. We had such an amazing time that the little hassles, including the lack of hot water, were worth it. 10/10, I'd recommend it and stay again!

Heaven: gorgeous views, a clean and luxurious place, and friendly, helpful staff. The food is great, and fruit, coffee, tea, and cookies are available all day. The bar has whatever drink you want. There are loads of birds and animal sounds, sunshine, and a great swimming pool. Totally awesome!
