Casa 0 is rustic and minimalist, but it had everything we needed. The hosts were sweet and keep their own private trails. We played Uno on the deck with my 5 and 7 year old, overlooking the stunning valley, while birds came by like we were birthing Bambi. We tried swimming in the little cascade, but the water was COLD, and we were in it for nanoseconds. It's a beautiful place and valley, with lovely hosts. If you're fine without the finer things, this isn't a boutique hotel, you'll love it.

The local area is lovely, with steep trails of its own, and we saw quetzals with guide Inaki (sp?). The water is potable, though there are restaurants but no groceries within walking distance. Booking on the same day was trouble free, and the staff were very helpful. The basic cabin was very comfy, but a few small annoyances cost it a star. None spoiled our great visit, and some seem fairly easy to fix. In Casa A, the door won't lock from outside if you leave for a walk. The kettle and microwave are awkward to use, since the kettle has to balance precariously or the microwave lead has to stretch, so a nearer socket or some counter space would help. The bathroom socket used for the heater has a flaky connection. The toilet flush works, but often needs a hand in the cistern to stop it dribbling.

The owner was incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay, and we're very grateful for all the assistance. The cabin has a spectacular view and sits in a peaceful, scenic area full of nature. Lots of birds, including woodpeckers, visited the nearby trees, and we even spotted a quetzal on the property early one morning. We arranged quetzal watching tours with Jairo through the owner at a very reasonable price, and saw quetzals on both days we joined. The kitchen was well equipped with a four burner stove, which made cooking easy, and the shower always had hot water, much appreciated in the cool climate. It can get quite cold at this high altitude, so stronger heating would make the cabin more comfortable. The steep terrain may also be tough for elderly guests or people with limited mobility. The owner was accommodating and helped when needed. A wonderful spot for anyone who wants to enjoy nature and wildlife.

From chalet 0 we could look out over the whole valley and hear quetzals and nightjars singing each morning. The rainforest trails were stunning, with excellent birding, and the restaurants nearby were lovely. Everyone we met was so friendly and kind. Beautiful setting, super nice staff, and great rooms for a good price. I highly recommend it and can't wait to come back.

My hut, No. 1, had an amazing view, and the veranda was a lovely place to relax. There's a fully equipped kitchen if you want to cook for yourself, and the owners are so friendly and ready to help with anything. House No.1 and No.0 get sun all day, while the other huts don't, so ask which one you'll get before booking. Loved this place for its peace and nature!
