Parque del Lago Boutique Hotel

The shower and the TV with YouTube were the best things about the room. The AC was seriously lacking, and the floor felt a bit dirty. The room cost wasn’t too bad. Overall, 3 out of 5.

We’d stay here again. It’s within walking distance of a few good restaurants, and the breakfast was fantastic: traditional Costa Rica food like eggs, rices and beans, some cheese, plenty of fresh fruit, excellent coffee, and juice. The staff were wonderful. They helped arrange our airport transportation and knew we had an early flight, so they let us have breakfast a little early.

We only used Hotel Parque Del Lago as a stop to fly in and out of Costa Rica, and it worked really well. The complimentary airport pickup was smooth: someone met us with our name on a sign and politely walked us to a very good cab. For the return, a very nice driver took us in a comfortable van. The whole transfer service was easy, efficient, and courteous. Everyone at the hotel was gracious, helpful, and understanding of what we wanted. They clearly know how to work with international travelers. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the a/c was fine. The bar and restaurant were good too, especially the expertly made mixed drinks and exceedingly fine rums. My wife loved the range of non-alcoholic fruit drinks, the agua frescas. The food was good, and the complimentary breakfast was VERY GOOD. I wouldn’t miss it. THE PARK across the street was nice and felt safe. Some reviews overstate the negatives and barely mention the positives. To me, it’s like any big city park. I wouldn’t wander around alone at night, especially very late, but that’s true of most places. Nobody accosted, approached, or threatened us. There were children, sports leagues playing games, joggers and walkers, plus a lovely couple selling fresh aqua frescas or a fresh coconut to drink with a straw for 2 dollars. There’s also a wonderful museum just across the street in the park. The police seemed to have an office there, and they were smiling and friendly when I waved. Hotel Parque Del Lago is a great choice.

We had a very pleasant stay. The room was comfortable and suited our one night there, and the hotel had free parking on site. Breakfast in the morning was delicious, and the room safe was handy for our valuables. The staff were very friendly and helped us get oriented on our first day in Costa Rica and San Jose. They also arranged a ride to a nearby destination and helped us exchange dollars for colones. I’d recommend staying here if you’re in the area.
