We hardly saw or heard other guests around our private cabin until breakfast at the main house. The garden paths were smooth, well irrigated concrete, surrounded by flowers and colorful foliage, with hummingbirds and butterflies around. The gardens were gorgeous, and the infinity pool was a lovely spot to relax and look toward the jungle. The cabins felt bright, clean, and welcoming, with colorful touches in a sleek, modern design. There was a mini fridge, coffee machine with grounds, tea, and an electric kettle, plus an open concept bathroom with a view of nature. Everything looked brand new, though they’ve been there six years, and the property felt romantic and peaceful. Nathalie greeted us when we arrived and showed us around. Breakfast was included with our Airbnb booking and served from 7 to 9. It came with fresh fruit, fried or scrambled eggs, red bean paste, some vegetables, toast and jam in little jars, orange juice, and water. You could choose freshly made pour-over coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. There’s a tip jar, and the meal and service deserve it. The drive was fairly easy, though the last 15 minutes were bumpy and felt shorter than expected. Tamarindo and several other beaches were a short drive away. Costa Rica roads can be rugged, so keep that in mind when planning to drive there. Check-in runs from 3 to 9 pm, so there’s no need to rush. I’ll always treasure the memories we made here and hope to return for years to come.

Watching butterflies from the dining table and hearing monkeys nearby was lovely. Our villa at Baliyana was spacious, clean, and modern, and we really enjoyed the private pool. The homemade breakfast with coffee and juice was delicious, too. The hosts were so nice, and my stay was incredible.

A lovely romantic spot with beautiful, clean rooms and a great pool. The hosts were super kind and helpful, and the homemade breakfasts were delicious and made with care. I’ll definitely come back.

After a five-hour drive, including the last half hour on an unmade road, we reached the lodge at 2 pm. It was 35 degrees, and we were tired and thirsty. The gates were locked and no one answered the phone, so we knocked on the metal gate. A furious couple came out from the house, swearing and telling us check-in was at 3. We hadn’t noticed the time, but expected we could wait in the shade until the room was ready, as we have at other lodges. They didn’t even offer water, let alone a place to park. Their hostility shocked us, so we turned around and left. No other host in Costa Rica treated us this way. The others were quite the opposite, which made this especially upsetting.

The French owners made us feel welcome, almost like family, and were delightful. We had a wonderful stay. The property sits in the hills above several quiet beaches, so you can enjoy the area without staying in the Tamarindo hubbub. French speakers will be especially pleased.
