Blue Trailz Hostel & Surf Camp

They made renting a room and a board easy, and the surfboard deals were great. My room was just right, with a balcony and table and chairs. The weather was perfect, the ocean was warm, and the laid-back feeling surrounded us every day. Even the howler monkeys came by before we left. They’ll wash, dry, fold, and return a bag of clothes to your room the same day for $5. The bus to San Jose stops right outside the hostel. Beautiful. Pura Vida, pure life.

I had four surf lessons during my five nights here, which felt like a good compromise for learning. The surf teacher was amazing, and the staff were lovely. The hostel is two minutes from the beach. There’s a great place to eat next door, pico, right on the beach, and pangas is a little farther toward playa grande, pricier but with amazing food. The rooms are okay and cleaned daily, each has its own bathroom and air co. There’s also an outdoor kitchen and a lovely patio. Thanks for the stay.

The staff were awesome, and even called a local doctor to arrange the covid test we needed to return to the US. My private room was huge, with a full kitchen, warm showers, and a private balcony. There was free coffee and good wifi. The place is across from the best waves, restaurants, and a brewery. Board rentals were the cheapest in town, 11 per day if you’re staying there. Fantastic.

This was one of the cleanest hostels I’ve stayed in, and the only one where I’ve had hot water. The staff and owners were extremely friendly and accommodating. It’s close to Tamarindo’s most popular stretch of beach. I’d definitely recommend it, especially to anyone here to surf.
