We saw loads of wildlife, and the property and views were stunning. Breakfast each day was delicious. Chris was a wonderful host, quick to respond when we ran into an issue, and full of useful recommendations for tours and restaurants, plus fascinating history and nature knowledge about the area. Before we arrived, they sent us a detailed website and map with suggestions and links to great local experiences. Our stay at Casitas Del Rio was everything we hoped for and more.

After three weeks of traveling around the country, my husband and I spent a week here and had some of our best experiences. The villas feel private and secluded, each surrounded by carefully tended plants and plenty of wildlife. We loved the pool and river as relaxing places to spend time, and saw lots of birds and hummingbirds while hearing howler monkeys every day. It’s close enough to town for activities, tours, shops, and restaurants, then you can get away from it all at the end of the day. Chris gives great recommendations for all kinds of outings, from local beaches and nature hikes to waterfalls, swimming holes, and restaurants. A real hidden gem in Uvita.

The pool was a great place for our group to gather and relax in the afternoons, and the villas were clean and had everything we needed. Chris and Kristen made us feel welcome right away. Chris walked us around the property, pointed out the best viewpoints, and told us which birds and animals to look for. He also gave us great suggestions for things to see and do, and helped arrange local guide tours so our group could have the best experience possible. We’d recommend Casitas Del Rio 10/10.

My husband and I spent a week at Casitas Del Rio for our honeymoon in January, 2026, and had an amazing vacation. It’s surrounded by nature, and Chris and Kristen do a great job supporting local sources. I looked forward to Chris’s coffee every morning, it was really good. You’ll need a 4x4 to reach the property. Our drive from the airport took almost 5 hrs with traffic, and the steep hill needs a reliable vehicle. Chris gave us great suggestions for the area, restaurants, and beaches. He was a wonderful host, and we felt right at home.

The casita was fantastic, clean and well kept, with good water pressure and temperature, refreshing A/C, and Wi-Fi that worked great. We loved cooling off in the pool each afternoon. It was cold enough to feel refreshing but warm enough to stay in for a while, and the accent lights made the area cozy at night. There were so many animals around the property, and Chris could tell us what to look for and when and where to spot them, including toucans, Scarlet Macaw, Jesus Lizards, glow beetles, and more. We also enjoyed walking around the colorful garden, and having the river nearby was one of the reasons we chose the property. Chris was wonderful. He communicated well, shared detailed directions and pictures for finding the place, greeted us on arrival, then gave us a tour and taught us about the animals, river, and plants. He created the garden with intention, and every plant had a purpose or story. He was full of interesting facts and great stories about Costa Rica, and made it easy to book activities and find good beaches and restaurants. We’d never been to the area, so we really appreciated his advice and recommendations. He was very friendly and told us a story each morning at breakfast, which was delicious and made with local foods. We’d seen some negative comments about the road, but it was just a bumpy dirt road. If you pay attention, stay on it, and drive slowly, it wasn’t a problem. 10/10, we’ll be back.
