We arrived to find that nobody had information about our reservation, and the reception was the hotel bar. Later that afternoon, we were told the hotel had no water. They suggested moving us to a supposedly downgraded place called “perla,” with no refund or anything. We insisted on staying at San Carlos, since the Perla hotel seemed even worse. Honestly, this was the worst hotel experience we've ever had. The rooms might be worth about $50 a night, not the $220 we paid on the website. The staff did the best they could with the resources and experience they likely had. I'm surprised to see the Melia logo associated with this place.

I haven't stayed here yet, but I looked around a few places so I'd have more options when I return. This one is high on my list, and I'll likely book a few nights when I'm back in Cienfuegos. It's beautiful, the rooms are very clean, and the views are fantastic. The staff were extremely helpful with my questions and took me on a tour. They seemed proud to work there. I'm looking forward to staying.

The rooms were clean and nice, and the staff made me feel welcome. They clearly take pride in the lovely building and its romantic feel. It’s close to Cienfuegos bay, too. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

This waterfront mansion became a charming colonial-style hotel after its renovation in 2004. Palacio Azul was designed by architect Alfredo Fontana and built in 1921 as the private home of a wealthy tobacco baron. The neo-classical building is topped by a tower with Mogol-style roofing.
