I’ve been a regular here for over three years, but today’s visit to the bowling area was a huge disappointment. My husband and I were given one explanation at reception about the game prices and what the entrance fee included, then staff in the bowling area told us something completely different when it came time to pay. We tried to explain the mix-up to the supervisor and find out where it came from. They acted as though everything had already been explained, dismissed our concerns without empathy, and eventually just said we hadn’t understood. They were no help at all. After that poor service, staff still asked us for a “service fee” as we were leaving. They hardly deserved anything beyond a complaint, which I’ll be making to the manager tomorrow.

It’s a lively place with a pool open to the public, a bolero, bar, cafeteria, pizzeria, and small shops for clothes and necessities. There’s always something going on. The hotel serves three buffet meals a day, and the prices are in Cuban CUCs. Rooms are colourful and not bad, though double beds are limited and most rooms have two singles. Staff are friendly and helpful. Spanish goes a long way, although some reception staff speak English. The area feels safe, with police around and vigilant hotel security. People are friendly and the atmosphere is nice, but keep an eye on your money in public. WiFi costs extra, with cards sold in different amounts. Cuba is relatively safe and prices are regulated.

The room itself was okay, but water dripped through the balcony ceiling in several spots, so sitting in the chair meant getting splashed. The spare bed was right up against the air conditioner vents.

We didn’t stay overnight, just used the hall and restaurant while waiting for a car and needing WiFi. For us, it was the best place in Havana to get a good connection. The restaurant was nice, and the swimming pool is beautiful.
