I wouldn't eat here. At the restaurant of Hotel Central Santa Clara, the waiter gave me no menu and only described the food aloud. I later checked the menu online, where prices in Cuban pesos came to about 5 USD. When I asked for the bill, they charged 20 USD. I challenged it, asked to pay in pesos, and showed them I'd seen the official prices online. They eventually corrected the amount. It felt like a clear attempt to overcharge a tourist, and the experience was very disappointing.

The breakfast that's meant to be included was very limited and poor quality. Eggs were never available, and the milk or coffee was really bad. The hotel's in a great location, though, and the staff are friendly and always ready to help. Rooms are clean and comfortable.

The hotel's palatial interior is amazingly grand, but there was no lift, and the number of stairs was staggering. I felt sorry for the staff. We were assigned a room at the very top because we were with a group. It was huge, but its door opened straight onto the rooftop bar, where there was music. Not what we'd have chosen. I don't mind a few steps, but you need to be fit to climb all those stairs. I've never seen anything like it.

Somehow I'm glad I found the world's worst hamburger. I can't describe the awful taste, except it kept coming back on me for days. Every bump in the road brought another burp and a yuk. The bar for food in Cuba is low, and these guys managed to bury it underground.

This hotel could be much better when the people of Cuba have freedom and the chance for free enterprise, and communism ends.
