The staff were warm and helpful, and there was always at least one bar open. We stayed in a roomy bungalow overlooking the sea, though the water pressure could get weak during busy times. The food and drink package was all-you-can-eat and drink, mostly buffet style with waiter service also available. Fresh fish at dinner was a highlight, and Christmas Eve came with champagne and a turkey dinner. My wife, our family, and I spent Christmas week here and had a good time. It was good value, but this is Cuba, and the resort was still recovering from Hurricane Sandy's direct hit, so some rough edges were understandable. We spent time at the beach and both pools, and depending on the day, could take a tour into Santiago de Cuba. We also went by catamaran into Santiago, swam, biked, ran, hiked in the hills, met local people, SCUBA dived, and watched the nightly entertainment.

The people were lovely, and the weather stayed great all week. The food was okay, though it wasn't what we're used to, and we didn't go hungry. The rooms were the letdown. We had to change rooms, and neither was very good. At least the bathroom in the second one worked properly. It was our first trip to Cuba, and we would come back. Next time, though, we'd book a bungalow.

The best part of our room was the huge private terrace on the second floor of the ocean-view beach bungalow. There are six units in the bungalows. Inside, the room was adequate, but there was no dresser for our week's clothes, just night tables. The closet had floor space for luggage, and the bathroom was fine. The beach had both sunny and shaded spots. The water was really warm, even warmer than the pools, though beach shoes were best for the ocean floor. The buffet food was mediocre, and our one a la carte meal at the neighbouring resort wasn't what we'd expected. Shows were okay, but there weren't enough seats. Our choice of resort was limited by the dates we needed.

The food quality was very poor, and liver made up most of what was offered during our trip. A few times the water was shut off, and I saw serving staff drawing water from a ground hose to use during meals. The staff were great, though they asked for gifts often. We stayed here in February 2020, and the hotel felt run down and like it was falling apart. I'm not sure we'd return. There isn't much to do for someone hoping to explore and see another country.

The beach is stunning, with mountains behind it, and snorkeling there was great, with lots of colourful fish. There's a bar open 24 hours and a disco that closes around 3pm. The drinks were good, the staff super friendly, and the food was great. Everything is organic. It felt like being in a small Cuban village. This was our second visit to Corales, and my teenage daughter and I have already started planning another trip for June after going there for March break. I've been to Cuba more than ten times, and I loooove this awesome hotel. It's definitely the best one my daughter and I have ever stayed at.
