We're just starting our stay, so I'll update this later. It's our first time in Cuba, though I've stayed at a lot of resorts in different countries. My first impression of the lobby bar has been disappointing. I know supplies are what they are in Cuba, but a smile and basic hospitality cost nothing. I've stood at the bar several times trying to get a drink, with no one there, and staff didn't even say hello or ask if they could help. They just ignored me, presumably so they wouldn't have to work. When I finally yelled to get service, the drinks were thrown together like my 12-year-old had made them, with no care or pride. No ice, either. Just a warm drink from a miserable staff member.

The beach is awesome, and the Boulevard is just a short walk away. The staff are working hard to make your stay good, and you can be sure you won't go hungry. Food repeats, though, and what's available to eat or drink can change each day because of shortages. Bring strong bug spray. There are lots of little critters, they're hungry, and they could carry disease. Do some reading about Cuba as it is today so you understand why things may be the way they are. People working at the resort can't change the shortages, so don't blame them for that. For the price, don't expect a five-star hotel, but do enjoy their welcoming smiles.

The beach is beautiful, and the weather was really good. The place was clean, but it has gone downhill and isn't like it was when I went there almost 20 years ago. The food wasn't that great, and when the storm hit, there was no hot water for a few days.

The surroundings and pools are nice, but a pretty setting doesn't make this a four-star hotel. Everything felt old and worn out, there was a bad smell everywhere, and cleanliness clearly wasn't a priority. The bathroom was so horrible I'd rather not use it. Staff were unfriendly and unhelpful, with no hospitality. Food quality and choice were very poor. Worst of all, there were cockroaches in the kitchen and restaurant, which was disgusting and completely unacceptable. I strongly don't recommend it. If you want to throw your money away, this is the place. It doesn't deserve even one star.
