Hotel Dos Mares

We booked this awful hotel for one night with a group on 11/18/24. Most rooms were filthy, many had no toilet seats, and some were missing flush handles. Black mold was everywhere, even in the very pretty bar. The softest, nicest towels were the one good thing. Stay away.

The hotel is a distressing place, and its only real plus is that it's 20 meters from the beach. The lack of soundproofing and poor cleanliness made it the worst hotel I've stayed in Cuba by far. Some staff came across as almost contemptuous. There were hardly any guests, and it was easy to see why. Even if it costs more, stay somewhere else so you can enjoy Varadero.

My room was clean, spacious enough, and had an authentic colonial feel, but I wasn't very happy with it. It faced the main street, and the hotel's terrace bar ran 24 hours, so it was too noisy to sleep. There was only a shutter, no glass window, and the air conditioning unit was fitted without insulation. Some rooms on the other side of the hotel are quieter. The location is very good, just a few meters from the beach and close to the shopping mall, restaurants, bars, and clubs. We only had breakfast, which included coffee, hot chocolate, cappuccino, fresh juice, fruit, toast with butter and jam, and a choice of omelette, scrambled eggs, fried egg, or toast with cheese and ham.

The room had a cockroach, gum was stuck under the table, the electrical wiring looked flimsy, and the TV remote didn't work. Reception simply wouldn't cooperate or help. They advertise Wi-Fi, but it's only at Dos Mares. They might send you to Hotel Pullman instead, two blocks away, and leave you to get there alone. By far the worst hotel I've stayed in. Avoid it.
