Ca Madeira - luxurious apartments

José, the hotel manager, was friendly and attentive. He even called to see if everything suited us and whether we needed help. The apartment was clean and modern, with all the comforts we needed, in a safe-feeling area close to shops, restaurants, and the beach. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend it. The 24-hour security was reassuring too.

José did try to help us, and I appreciate that, but the stay fell short of what we expected. The first room looked lovely, but we hadn't realized it was at ground level. We didn't feel comfortable leaving the windows open because the apartment seemed easy to enter. After our first shower, we found a leak; an employee helped mop up, and José came to inspect it. We asked to move, hoping for a working shower and a softer mattress. The shower in the next apartment also had problems, and its doors wouldn't open and close properly. The mattress was somewhat better, but the bed felt unstable. José said he'd fix it, but it never happened, and we heard nothing from the owners. A few things need attention: booking information should show the floor level, the showers and beds need fixing, and the loose covers kept coming off whenever I moved, which also raised hygiene concerns. I'm not sure why it's called deluxe. Hopefully other guests have a better experience.

The apartment was very nice, close to both the beaches and the city center. Morabeza beach club is beautiful. BoaVista was lovely too, with marvelous beaches and sea, but José was the best part of our stay. He helped us in every way he could, even when things seemed impossible. Half the reason we had such a good holiday was José. If we come back, I'll definitely call him about accommodation.

We booked 15 days through Booking in April, but ended up with an apartment for only one week. We've holidayed in Boavista, Cape Verde for several years, and this was the worst treatment we've had from apartment managers. After this experience, we'll be very careful about booking places managed by Fabien and Marta again. We arrived on July 30th at 12.30pm, and nobody was there to greet us. After we got in touch, Marta came and showed us the apartment. It hadn't been cleaned, even though they knew our arrival time. She said she'd call the cleaners and told us we could leave our bags. The place was completely dirty, the mattress was wet, and there was a strong tobacco smell throughout. I'm allergic to tobacco, so I said I couldn't stay in those conditions. Marta called someone, probably Fabien, who offered another apartment until the next day and promised the booked one would then be ready. Marta never apologized. The following day, the tobacco smell in our booked apartment was still intense and unbearable. Fabien arrived shouting at us, acting aggressively and arrogantly. He said nobody had smoked there and that what we smelled was damp. Whatever the cause, we couldn't sleep in a place with that smell. We told him we couldn't stay, and he turned his back and shouted that he had no apartment for us. My wife and I asked him to calm down. He then said there might be another apartment, but we'd have to pay more because it was larger. We went to see it, found it was actually better quality, and agreed to stay. Fabien said we could have it for one week and that he'd try to find an equivalent for the second week. The next day, he said he had nothing for us, offered no explanation, and wouldn't help find another place for the remaining days of our original 15-day reservation. Again, nobody apologized. One of our children became ill during the week. My wife asked Marta for extra towels and bleach to clean the bathrooms, but Marta ignored the message. Eventually, after they kept insisting, the cleaners came with the requested items, but it took two days. On the final day, we had no checkout instructions from either of them. My wife messaged Marta to say we needed to leave by 10am and ask what to do with the keys. She ignored that too. When the cleaners arrived, we simply handed over the keys and left. We heard nothing further from Fabien or Marta. A real disgrace. We don't recommend it and will never book with them again.
