The Christmas holiday was wonderful, and our room, 802, had a fantastic sea view. The food was very good, and we enjoyed every meal, especially the Christmas Day Gala. Most of the staff were lovely, helpful and welcoming. The woman at the beach bar was rude and unwelcoming, so we got our drinks at the top bar by reception instead. The team there were very friendly and always had a smile. Thanks to Kevin, Ricardo and Sara for being so kind and friendly throughout our holiday xxx

The hotel staff responded to my comment straight away and asked about what had happened in a very nice way. I thought that would be the end of it, but today they surprised us with a handwritten apology and a lovely bottle of wine. Amazing, professional response from the hotel ♥️ We’d only just arrived, and first impressions matter. We were given our room keys too early, and when we walked in, it clearly hadn’t been cleaned after the last guests. The cleaner was shocked to find us already there. We went for a walk, but she couldn’t possibly do a thorough job in about 15 minutes. The bathroom wasn’t properly cleaned, and there was someone else’s hair in the bathtub. There was rubbish outside on the terrace and no bin bags in the bins. It was an uncomfortable start. I’d much rather have been told in the lobby to wait, so we could have had a drink by the pool and then gone to a clean, ready room.

We were waiting for takeoff after a sandstorm and stayed here in the meantime. The hotel staff were kind and helpful, and the gym was great. Despite some negative reviews, the staff spoke very good English, better than my Crioulo, and the rooms were passable. Just wanted to thank them for making our stay as comfortable as it could be.

The evening entertainment was great fun, especially the dancing. Rider from the animation team deserves a special thank you for always going out of his way to keep guests happy. Service across the resort was consistently very good and genuinely friendly. When I had a small issue, director Mr. Condeça dealt with it quickly and professionally. I spent three wonderful weeks at Occidental Boa Vista Beach and feel sad to leave tomorrow. The resort has charming architecture, with mostly one- or two-storey houses spread through a thoughtfully designed property. It feels relaxed and intimate, and sits right on the beach with stunning Atlantic views. I was particularly glad to have booked Room 304 with a sea view. The pool is spacious and beautifully designed, with a large warm swimming area. The ocean was off limits for swimming on many days because of strong waves and currents, which are common on Boa Vista and beyond the hotel’s control. I used the gym now and then. It’s a bit dated, but has what you need for a good workout. The resort could use some renovation, though that didn’t really affect my enjoyment. Its charm, location and atmosphere more than make up for it. The food was delicious and varied, with lots of choice each day. It would be a nice touch if champagne were included for All Inclusive guests. I’ve also stayed at Voi Praia de Chaves, Riu Karamboa and Riu Touareg, and can confidently recommend this hotel. Its smaller size feels more personal and relaxed, and to me it’s even more beautiful and charming than the larger Riu resorts. I’m leaving with lovely memories and will gladly return in three weeks, this time with my lovely wife.

I stayed for 7 days in Jan\Feb 2026 with my wife and 12-year-old child. The rooms are spacious, housekeeping comes daily, staff are friendly, and there’s a variety of food. The hotel is close to the ocean and its sandy beach. Wi-Fi works well in the lobby, but the signal in the rooms is very poor. The hotel needs a decent renovation. The pool water was so cold that almost nobody used it. It was windy all seven days, and the red flag meant swimming wasn’t allowed.
