The nearby black lava beach is beautiful, and there are good spots for birdwatching and nature walks. The hotel has a few rooms facing the sea, two dogs for company, excellent food, and a sumptuous breakfast. Bernard, the host, is a nice bloke.

This place is quite isolated, so be careful around there. I was robbed in that area. The establishment is no longer operating, and I'd avoid it.

We ended our Cape Verde holiday on a wonderfully relaxing note at Villa Sao Jose. We spent three fantastic days there, with an ocean-facing room where the waves lulled us to sleep. The food was absolutely delicious, and we'd recommend half-board. We also saw baby turtles on the black sand beach beside the villa. Thank you, Guillaume and Bernard, for being such welcoming hosts.

On the island's east coast, the villa sits beside a fine sandy beach in what we found to be the most beautiful part, even if it's the least known. Guillaume and Bernard, the two Frenchmen who run it, go out of their way for guests. The food is delicious, and the place feels idyllic.
