Hotel Da Luz

The staff really made our stay at DaLuz hotel. Reception was superb, and when I realized on arrival that I’d left my passport at Simshop Aulo at the airport, they quickly arranged a ride back. I paid for it, of course, but the help was prompt. The elevator was out of order for many days, though when we checked out the reception staff carried our luggage downstairs, which was a good solution. We were there for nearly a month, mainly to relax in the pleasant climate for a short winter break rather than take a holiday around Sal. Our room was nice and cleaned daily, and the cleaning team was polite and friendly. Most of the breakfast staff were friendly too. The food selection varied from day to day, but it worked for us. They’d make eggs to order, and there was a decent choice of food and drinks, including brown bread, mini croissants, and sometimes other breads. The plain white bread was dry and not very tasty. The atmosphere was about what we expected. The restaurant door could use an angle bracket or two to fix the raised edge. The main street is about a five-minute walk away, as is the beach. For big 5L water bottles and maybe candy or peanuts, there’s a Mini Mercado opposite the hotel, so you can support local people. We loved our stay. Thanks to the staff! Breakfast was awful, with flies all over the food and staff who didn’t seem bothered. There were stray dogs wandering around the hotel too. The room itself wasn’t bad, but we had no hot water during our stay.

Service was great, and it’s a pleasant little spot set slightly away from the busy areas, with a lovely terrace and a nice pool and poolside. I only had dinner there once. The burger didn’t work for me: the bread was like paper, the meat had no flavor, and I left hungry.

It’s a small, cute hotel with a nice pool and a pleasant atmosphere. The beach and town center are less than a 10-minute walk away. Breakfast was good, with eggs and a range of continental items, and the restaurant was convenient. The owner responds quickly when there’s an issue. You can also arrange airport pickup for $20. I had a really nice time here.
