This simple, traditional Sal building sits in the middle of Cape Verdean homes, where you can socialize and get close to the wonderful, friendly Creole people. Around it is a peaceful setting, away from the daily rush of mass tourism. It feels like an unspoiled paradise, with turquoise water and golden sand against the dry, barren landscape of this wonderful moonscape.

It’s basic, but the place is clean and fresh. There’s no proper reception, though the landlady is easy to reach if you ask one of the friendly neighbors. She’s also very helpful with whatever you need.

Avoid this place. Ms. Paula offers four apartments on Airbnb, but she’s completely unreliable and doesn’t respond to bookings made through the site. Maybe that’s for the best, though...

We booked for about a month, but left after less than a week because of the unsanitary conditions. The place smelled bad, there were cockroaches throughout the bathroom, and the mattresses and sheets had a strong musty odor. It was a nightmare, and we absolutely don’t recommend staying here. This place should be banned.

For the price, it’s a well-maintained local house. The village is small, so even though the house is on the outskirts, it’s still convenient. A taxi to or from the airport costs €10. Paula, who runs the house, is very accommodating, and an Italian man who helps her was very helpful too. The water went off for one day, which I think happens around here, but after we mentioned it, they fixed everything right away.
