Ayia Thekla Beach House

Beautiful.

We liked Villa 3’s private pool and the two pergolas with seating. We parked on the property under a roof, and the living room even had a piano. With its paintings, statues, and other objects, the villa felt like visiting relatives rather than staying in a hotel. The equipment is reasonably worn, and some guests have clearly been less careful: the door in the lower bedroom was slightly dented. It didn’t bother us, though, because it felt like a lived-in place. We didn’t find any faults. There were dishes for 20 people, though sometimes there weren’t enough of the ones we needed. The large fridge had a freezer, and there were five air conditioners. Restaurants and markets are nearby. We like cats, so we were happy they were around and fed and pampered them. In August, expect tropical weather. We saw about three cockroaches inside, but that wasn’t the landlord’s fault: we always had the door open, and it’s a humid climate, so they sometimes show up. If that bothers you, you can spray the room as a precaution. The fireplace uses charcoal, so you can grill food. The villa cost us 180EUR / day in August, and that’s the perspective we’re judging it from. The equipment isn’t brand new, but we didn’t mind. If you want a sterile environment, you’d probably want a 5* hotel, likely at a different price.
