The food and cleanliness were awful, and we ended up leaving after three nights even though we had booked eight. We paid for half board, but the meals were badly cooked with almost no variety, and the old, mismatched cutlery was dirty. Our first room smelled and was dirty, with a broken safe, so we changed rooms. The second room had bedbugs too. We showed the staff evidence, but the accommodation denied there was a problem. We lost sleep moving our belongings and trying to keep them from getting contaminated. I know bedbugs spread quickly, bite, lay eggs and can be very expensive to get rid of, so we put our clothes in the bathtub, which was peeling and covered in cracked paint. There was also hair left in the bathroom. The next day we spent hours steaming our things, then paid for a laundromat and dryer ourselves. The receptionist was disrespectful and said, “You guys are young, what’s a little bug gonna do to you?” We’re a young couple, but that’s no way to dismiss the problem. The water was cold and the pressure was poor. We had to turn on all the taps to get warmer water, and even then the pressure still wasn’t right. We left for another place and asked for the remaining five nights back. The refund covered only four nights. They claimed we stayed from 4 May to 8 May, but we stayed the nights of 4-5, 5-6 and 6-7 May, when we found the bedbugs, and were already elsewhere after that. I’m still going to fight for the full balance. This ruined the only holiday we could take this year, which we worked really hard to afford.

The rooms were spacious and had views, but that was about all I liked. They were worn down and sparsely equipped, with questionable toilet facilities and water pressure and temperature. The building and paths were dirty, and a balcony handrail had rotted through and failed, which was dangerous. Breakfast was basic and identical each day, so it got boring fast. Our room wasn’t cleaned during our four-night stay, and we had to ask for replacement towels on day three. The staff were friendly, at least. The place feels old and run down, so I’d only book if you get a very good price. It’s not central, which we knew in advance, and bus 615 apparently runs every 10-15 minutes, so getting around was OK. Depending on your dates and budget, though, you might find somewhere more central. The local cats, diseased and unfriendly as they seemed, did enjoy the yard’s nooks and crannies, among all the pretty flowers.

The staff were lovely, and I’d definitely stay here again. For the price, a week was well worth it. Breakfast was €7 each, cash only, with a nice little selection. The room was clean but very basic, and the shower could’ve had more power. Cleaning came every four days after arrival. We had a slight sea view and caught the sunset from the room during our first couple of nights.

I’d stayed here before and remembered the staff, including the night and cleaning staff, as nice. But the management was weak when a serious problem came up. The bar man from Bulgaria kept pestering me, and because I was friendly to him, he seemed to think it was OK to touch me. He was drunk while working each night, stared at me at the pool, and came to my room one morning acting sexually. Even after I told him to get lost many times, he kept trying to massage my shoulders and come up behind me. I told the manager she needed to do something. She just told me to avoid him, which meant I had to stop using the pool and facilities after paying to stay there. The next day she said she hadn’t seen him, though he was there again despite this being a sackable offence. She never came to check on me or reassure me. She was completely useless. I was glad to be leaving a few days later for a better hotel.

The place was in terrible shape, with visible damage and questionable hygiene. As soon as I entered the room, I saw a cockroach in the kitchen, and the entrance door was in very bad condition. More cockroaches appeared in the kitchen over the week. I reported them to reception several times, but they only sent cleaners, which didn’t solve anything. There was a completely rotten panel under the counter that seemed to be where they were coming from. The housekeeping was inconsistent too. The bathrobes were changed just once, and cleaners came only when we specifically asked, mostly because of the pests. The laundry service was in a damp, dirty room with a nauseating smell. I stayed at Sunny Hill Hotel Apartments in Chloraka for a week, and it was a catastrophic experience. I’d never return and strongly advise people to avoid it.
