Theo Sunset Bay Hotel

The pool is the best thing about this hotel, with incredible views of the sea and mountains. But closing the whole pool area at 6 PM is far too early. We weren’t even allowed to stay on a sunbed. You don’t know what room you’ll get, a new one or an older room by the pool. Most are dated, with worn furniture and no soundproofing. A lot feels stuck in the 90s. Housekeeping comes when it suits them. Our cleaner arrived at 9 AM and said she couldn’t come back later. There were no toiletries in the bathroom, just some mystery soap in an unlabelled refillable dispenser. Not great if you have sensitive skin, so bring your own. Breakfast was okay, with eggs and pancakes cooked while you wait, but the ingredients were cheap and not always fresh. Hygiene could be better too, the same cloth was used on all the tables and I didn’t see any spray. The bar prices are fair, and there’s a hotel-owned kiosk selling snacks and drinks. The views are great, but service and quality need serious improvement for the hotel to reach four-star level.

The restaurant and pool have a great view, and the food is okay. Beyond that, things weren’t good. The pool water was cold, and the nearest beach was far away, dirty, stony and not suitable for swimming. The Wi-Fi barely worked, either no connection or a very weak signal. The rooms were clean but need repairs, and there was a smell in the bathroom.

The bay view was beautiful, but the rest of the stay was disappointing. The coffee machine, safe and toilet seat in the room were broken; I reported the problems several times and nothing got fixed. The walls are paper-thin, the staff came across as unfriendly and condescending, and towels were changed only every three days. The buffet was awful, bland and repetitive, and the à la carte restaurant wasn’t any better. Half-board guests were treated very differently from all-inclusive guests, which made the stay feel unfair and unpleasant. The hotel is a long way from the city, and getting around means taking a bus or paying for overpriced taxis. Definitely not worth the price.

The staff made the week for us. Anastasia, the guest relations manager, took time to get to know people, and Olivia was brilliant with the daily activities, including a lovely wine and cheese tasting. She also ran the water aerobics, which was great fun. There were big smiles around the hotel every day. Alexandra did a fabulous job with the evening entertainment, getting guests involved with her energy, though the entertainment itself was the one letdown. The views at Theo sunset bay were spectacular, the all-inclusive food and bar were fantastic, and the staff were welcoming and always smiling. Our room was cleaned every day by a lovely lady, and the whole hotel, including the public toilets, was kept spotless. We’ve just come back from a week there and will return in September 2026. The hotel deserves a higher star rating, and I’d recommend it without hesitation to families. Thanks to all the staff for the warm welcome and service.
