Club Lapethos Bungalow

There were lovely surprises at Club Lapethos. A tunnel goes underneath the road to a beautiful breakfast spot and beach. Breakfast was fresh and tasty, the bungalow was neat and really clean, and the big pool was a sparkling pleasure to swim in. Rafael, the barman and general helper, was such a friendly and helpful young man. The manageress and the rest of the staff were great too.

The breakfast was good, and the hotel is still calm and beautiful. It used to be a good, large place, but now it feels too old. The electric water heater doesn't work properly, so you may have trouble when taking a shower.

I spent a week here and had booked a split level chalet. After arriving at 11 pm tired from travelling, I was offered a filled bread roll of mysterious origins, which I politely declined. Looking back, it was a sign of what was ahead. The front door to my chalet was half blocked by a large hedge or bush, so I had to crawl on all fours to reach the lock. I left my bags unpacked and went upstairs to sleep. The third step from the top tipped at a 45 deg angle when I stepped on it. It hurt, but I needed rest. The weather was hot and humid, and the AC didn't work. I took a quick shower instead. The brittle plastic doors were worn, with pieces missing and sharp edges, and they clearly leaked. In the morning, I tried to watch the news on TV. There was no remote, and the manual controls had only one button for changing channels. To go back one channel, I had to go forward 99. I went to reception first thing to ask what could be done. They moved me without fuss to a ground floor hotel room with a nice balcony overlooking the pool. My booking included half board. I had breakfast before moving, and never ate it again: I chose a boiled egg and toast, which you make yourself. The evening meal was exactly the same, so that was my last dinner there too. Of what was offered, I only had soup and bread. The local places I visited served excellent, tasty local and traditional dishes, which I loved. The hotel was nice and clean, the staff polite and attentive, the maid service good, and the amenities great. The food was a real pity. They should rethink the menu, its quality, and presentation. The free wifi also only reached the reception area, so I had to keep going there to get updates.

The water slides are okay, but safety seems to be missing. There were no lifeguards and nobody watching to prevent accidents on the bigger slides.
