The hygiene was awful: we found cockroaches in the beds and around the dining area at breakfast and dinner. Staff hovered over us while we ate, making it hard to enjoy a meal. We felt as if we had to finish our plates and drink our water somewhere else. I was filling the bathtub when a female employee knocked. I was in the bathroom, so my girlfriend answered. The employee spoke in her own language, and my girlfriend doesn’t speak Russian. She was quite rude. When I came out and asked what was going on, she said someone had complained that water was going into the kitchen. I told her that wasn’t my problem, and she snapped, “It is your problem.” It felt as if showering or washing there was forbidden. Reception staff also seemed unwilling and uninterested. I’ve rarely seen such unmotivated employees. The hotel wasn’t worth what I paid, and it completely ruined my holiday in Cyprus.

I had a good three-night winter holiday here, and the room was quiet at night with a sea view. The hotel is well equipped, so I don’t understand why it has such a low rating. Breakfast was a buffet with both hot and cold food, and the beach is a five-minute walk away. Bus 425 goes straight to the airport for 2.4 €. There are also plenty of bus routes to Larnaka city, Protaras, Paralmni, and other places. If you forget an adaptor, you can borrow one with a 3 € deposit. Everything was good.

We’d be happy to come back, it felt like coming home. Mariandy is quiet, relaxed, and family-style, with friendly service, around 30-50 rooms, a lovely pool area, and a great breakfast. It’s easy to get to, and the beach is just a five-minute walk away. That stretch is quiet too, with mostly locals and beach villas rather than big hotels or lots of tourists. Havana Beach bar nearby rents a sunbed and umbrella for 5€ for the whole day. It was lovely to watch the sun rise over the sea or go for an early morning walk or jog. It felt safe. Vlacho, a five-minute walk away, serves very good food at good prices. The Mariandy rates are fabulous for the standard and location.

The price was good, and the other staff were lovely. But the receptionist was one of the rudest people I’ve met, and it really seemed like she didn’t want to be there. With renovations and new front-of-house staff, this could be a great spot.

I was unsure after reading all the negative comments, but I’m glad to say I enjoyed my stay. The hotel was clean, had a good breakfast, and the staff were friendly, apart from maybe one grumpy housekeeper. It’s 200 meters from the beach and outdoor gym.
