Metropole Hotel

Breakfast was a treat, with three kinds of lovely croissants from a local bakery, and room service came every day. The hotel is downtown, near a waterfront park, and the closest beach is about a 10-15 minute walk. Some rooms have bathtubs.

It’s a basic place that does the job, and was fine for a night or two. My room was clean, the AC worked, and the location suited where I needed to go. The furniture looked dated but was still usable. Breakfast didn’t have much variety, though it was fresh. Reception staff were professional and answered my questions politely. Nothing was wrong, but there’s little beyond the essentials.

The one real plus was the excellent central location. Otherwise, this was the worst hotel we’ve stayed at. I don’t think it’s worth 100 euros, maybe 40 at most. The room was very cramped, and one of the beds was a small sofa in awful condition. I could only sleep on half of it, and my back hurt. The pillows were cheap. The fridge suddenly started making noise at night, so I had to switch it off. Our toilet cistern leaked and made noise all night, and it wouldn’t flush, so we had to use the kettle. There was also a strange head looking out the window. We could smell cigarettes at night, and it was noisy too, though that’s to be expected in the center. I got about three hours of sleep and wouldn’t recommend this place. It seems like somewhere people end up only when everything else is booked, like during a marathon or carnival.

What we liked most was being right in the heart of Lemosos, with things to see and do just outside. After dinner by the marina, we bought a bottle of red and relaxed on the balcony, watching people pass by. The manager was a real gentleman, showed us to the room, and checked that we were happy with it. I think we got our money's worth, because it’s really just somewhere to sleep, despite the hotel's antique feel. The place is showing its age. The accommodation was comfortable enough, but everything felt like it was from the 70s. It all worked, just barely, and many of the fixtures and fittings need a complete overhaul. There is parking, but you have to book it ahead, and with nowhere to pull up, arranging that is tricky. Breakfast is served at the cafe next door. It wasn’t too bad, but the choices were very limited and there’s almost no indoor seating, so you eat at tables outside on the pavement. You’d be better off skipping it and walking to a nicer nearby place to eat.
