Blue Lagoon Kosher Hotel

The hotel itself was terrible, and we even had bed bugs in our room. They charge more than double the normal hotel price without including dinner. Look at the pictures.

We only learned on arrival that the hotel had double branding. It was marketed online as “Capital Coast Hotel & Spa,” while “Blue Lagoon Kosher” turned out to apply to a floor below the regular dining room. The hotel was good overall, but those mattresses were terribly hard and gave us back pain. The spa pool indoors wasn’t heated. In April, both that pool and the outdoor pool, heated by sunshine, were so cold you’d need to be the toughest Russian diver to stay in either with gritted teeth.

The Shabbat meals were a particular highlight of our peaceful weekend here. We also enjoyed the indoor pool, jacuzzi and sauna, and walks along the beach. I’d highly recommend this place to kosher keeping guests looking for a relaxing vacation.

The food was a letdown for a hotel charging extra for kosher meals as part of a non-kosher hotel. It was also half board, so staff said we should pack lunch from breakfast. But when my wife tried to take some vegetables, she was told she could only make sandwiches. Really? We were very disappointed in the service, too. The air conditioners shut off when you leave the room or open the balcony door because of sensors. That doesn’t work for a Sabbath observant guest. We arrived Wednesday and managed to get the sensors turned off so the AC would run all day, but only after threatening to leave. The staff were extremely unhelpful. The manager said she’d turn them back on if we told any other Observant guests what they’d done for us. Zero customer service.
