Malama Beach Holiday Village

We'd happily come back. The location was handy for both the beach and restaurants, and breakfast was fresh with a good range of options. Our room was comfortable and clean, with housekeeping taking care of it each day. The staff were friendly, helpful, and professional, and service was excellent throughout our stay.

I enjoyed relaxing at Malama Beach Hotel. The setting is beautiful, the facilities are nice, and everyone on staff was welcoming and friendly. I did feel uneasy hearing that guest tips are kept by the 2 bar managers instead of being shared with the waitresses, bar staff, and other people serving guests. I want my tips to reach the people who look after us and be shared fairly. I had a good stay, but hope management takes another look at this policy and treats the hardworking staff fairly.

The pool seating reserved for us throughout the stay was a real plus. Service was friendly and attentive, though staff did keep asking to clear our plates. We were there four nights as a couple with a very active two-year-old, on all-inclusive, and the experience was just okay despite the great reviews that had raised our expectations. Our room was spacious and nicely renovated, with a separate bedroom and living room that worked well when our little one went to bed early. The bathroom seemed dated, and there were hardly any amenities: no bottled water, an empty minibar, and only basic soap. The towels felt old and not very soft. Food was average. Breakfast was basic, with one person making omelets on a single pan, so the line got long. Lunch had fewer choices but was quieter. Dinner had more buffet variety and excellent live cooking stations, but the waits were long there too, which wasn't ideal with a toddler. Poolside food was very simple, and the cocktails used very basic local alcohol. The beach wasn't private and was quite crowded. It was a decent vacation, but we wouldn't pick this place again.

We were 19 Romanians, adults and children, staying on half board through a travel agency package. The restaurant staff made us feel harassed and disrespected during our stay. The way the children were treated was especially upsetting. They were only eight and had just sat at the table while the adults got food, yet staff repeatedly and aggressively asked them for our room numbers. It put needless pressure on the kids. I was also asked three times at the same table which room I was in, before I could even put down my plate or start eating. We felt singled out and viewed with suspicion, even though we'd paid in full for our stay and meals. We chose half board because that was the package our agency offered, not because we couldn't afford all-inclusive. We wanted to explore the area instead of spending the whole day at the hotel. Whatever the board option, we expected basic respect and a welcoming attitude, not constant questions and tension. I hope management takes this seriously, especially when dealing with families and young children. Respect and hospitality shouldn't depend on the package you book.
