Protaras Plaza Hotel

They were very accommodating when I mentioned I was vegan and asked for non-dairy milk at breakfast. They went out and bought some for me. Breakfast had both English and continental options, and they made me a list of restaurants that were open during the off season. I could leave my luggage there during the day. When I came back before going on, I didn’t even take a shower, though I could have if I’d wanted to.

The room is on the first floor, which makes carrying a baby push chair up and down every day inconvenient. Staff suggested leaving it near reception, but that’s too far from our room to be practical. The bigger concern is the damp and mold. The kitchen cabinets smell strongly of mold, paint is peeling from the walls, and the bathroom silicone is black and moldy. We’re here with children, so the visible mold and musty smell feel unacceptable and unhealthy for a place presented as a 3-star hotel. We asked to move rooms and were offered one with the same layout, but its cabinets smelled moldy too. Staff did try wiping the mold with soap and a sponge and working on the shower silicone, but that kind of surface cleaning doesn’t address mold in walls and furniture. When we asked if anyone had reported these problems before, given that it’s already the end of the season, they said we were the first. Honestly, that’s hard to believe. This stay has been very disappointing and far below what we expected from a 3-star hotel. We hope management takes the feedback seriously, especially for families with small children.

The room became unbearably hot because the listed air conditioning didn’t work, and the broken balcony door couldn’t be opened to let in air. I reported both problems during my stay, but nothing was fixed. Contacting the property got me nowhere, and the hotel didn’t answer my messages after checkout either. The stay didn’t match the description, and the lack of response made the experience even worse. I expected a more professional way of handling the issues. I can’t recommend this hotel.

For the price, it was a very nice stay. The room was clean and satisfactory, the location was great, and there was a breakfast buffet. Even though it was off season and the hotel was mostly empty, both the indoor and outdoor pools were serviced and the buffet had a wide selection. Some amenities were closed for the season.
