New Helvetia Hotel

New Helvetia Forest Hotel is full of history and soul, and every detail seems to have a story. As the oldest hotel in Cyprus, it has a special feel. The people were incredibly kind and made us feel at home. Forest trails are just steps away, and evenings by the fireplace with comforting food made it a lovely place to recharge. Can't wait to come back! 🌲❤️✨

My husband and I came back to Paphos around 21:00, choosing a warm, comfortable place to sleep instead of staying through the night. We live in Paphos and had booked one night at New Helvetia in Platres a few days ahead for a relaxing Troodos weekend. We knew it was an old hotel, but the photos and online reviews made the rooms look renovated. We left disappointed, with no refund offered. To be fair, we didn't ask for one. The owner offered us a complimentary future stay as compensation and took my husband's details to follow up, but we don't plan to return and doubt things would be different. The location has potential, and I hope management takes these problems seriously. Old hotels can have charm, but they still need to be comfortable, well maintained, and accurately represented online. The room was cold, neglected, and extremely outdated for the price, nothing like the website photos. The bathroom seemed to have had some updates, but the rest of the room was depressing. It was November, when mountain temperatures were already low, and the radiator barely worked, nowhere near enough to heat the space. At dinner, we saw guests sitting in jackets because the whole hotel felt cold. Other guests, especially families with small children, were complaining to the owners. The owner blamed a general electricity problem in Pano and Kato Platres, but that didn't really explain the heating. We tried to make the evening work by eating at the hotel restaurant, but the spinach ravioli I ordered was poor quality and left me with stomach pain. We decided not to ruin the weekend further and left at night rather than stay in that uncomfortable room. We truly wanted a peaceful mountain break, but ended up cutting our stay short.

No heat in November, so the room was chilly, and the bed was very hard. It was clean, but old, and most rooms are pretty small. We spent the evening in the cozy, vintage bar and lounge by the fireplace. The restaurant was closed. Breakfast on the veranda the next morning was great.

The breakfast was good, and the location was good too, but it wasn't worth the price. The photos only show suites and don't reflect the actual rooms, which are tiny and have no heating. They gave us a gas heater, but it smelled strongly and the room stayed cold. The balcony was tiny as well, and the space was disappointing.
