Bougainvillea Hotel Apartments

The staff worked incredibly hard, putting in long hours serving, cleaning, tending the allotment, and looking after the grounds. They still always made time for us and the kids. My only complaint was that air conditioning was available only in the upstairs bedroom. I was disappointed to get a €100 bill at the end of the holiday, though it wouldn't stop me returning. Highly recommended. It's in a brilliant spot, a short walk from Polis centre, with its nice bars and restaurants and occasional events in the square. The beach is about ten minutes on foot. The rooms are basic but clean. We were a family of five, with two beds downstairs and our double bed and a provided cot upstairs. Both balconies look over fields, with the sea in the distance. It's very quiet, so sitting outside with a few drinks was lovely. The kitchen is basic, and the bathroom has a good shower and a bath, which was great with the kids. The pool area was nice and never too busy while we were there. We don't care much about sunbeds and just used the tables and chairs. The menu is good, well priced, and has a good drinks selection.

There are plenty of restaurants a short walk away, and the sandy beach is about 10 minutes on foot. We rented a car for £25 euros a day, and driving was easy since they use right-hand-drive cars and drive on the left. The plugs are the same as in the UK. The setting feels unspoilt, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the apartment gets cleaned regularly. There’s a nice pool with lots of chairs and loungers around it, plus food and drinks available onsite. The cooking setup is basic, and air conditioning is only in the bedroom and costs extra. The pool and the staff were both lovely, and Stavros the owner was superb. It’s an easy five-minute walk to the beach, or the same distance into town for bars and restaurants. The accommodation is fairly basic, but clean, well maintained, and spacious. We also had lovely balconies to sit on. It’s a quiet place.

We stayed in apartment 26, in the block farthest from reception. Other reviews suggest the layouts vary between blocks, so these comments are about this apartment. The location worked really well: restaurants and bars are a very short walk away, but far enough off that we had no noise. There’s ample parking for a rental car, and many apartments have a covered space underneath. We appreciated the large selection of books and games. We didn’t use the pool during our week, though other guests spoke well of its size and temperature. The staff were consistently welcoming and polite. The apartment was spotlessly clean, with good shower pressure and frequent towel replacements, including the tea towel. It has two balconies and a small terrace, so there’s a choice between sitting in direct sun and avoiding it. Bedroom air conditioning worked very efficiently. The main drawback was the heat elsewhere: there’s no air conditioning outside the bedroom, which made the rest of the apartment unusable when daytime temperatures were 34-38C. The living room sofa beds were so worn that they weren’t usable for sitting, leaving nowhere comfortable to relax, especially without air conditioning. The TV there is tiny and basic. For self-catering, the single-shelf oven and grill is shallow and very small. Two large pitta breads filled it, so cooking a full meal would be difficult. There are no laundry facilities onsite. Even on its coldest setting, the fridge freezer only kept food and drinks cool, and ice melted in the freezer compartment. It’s a three-star place that fits its rating, and the staff make it better.
