Vavla Rustic Retreat

The rooms were cosy, nicely decorated, and had everything we needed. Donna Marie and George looked after us so well, and the peaceful setting made it easy to relax. Food was a big part of the stay: breakfast started with delicious French toast, the best we've ever had, and dinner was a varied five-course meal. Donna Marie also shared some local cooking and recipes. Everything was made with regional ingredients from the garden or nearby markets. We had a wonderful vacation at “Our House.”

Book dinner if you stay. Donna and George have both been chefs for a long time, and it was a real treat. Their house has been cared for across generations, and you can feel the family history all around you. They're a one of a kind couple with an amazing story. We loved this unusual homestay in a quaint Cyprus village and would come back. Thanks, Donna and George.

I wouldn't recommend this place for families with children. We went for breakfast with 3 children. Once they had eaten, they went to play in the courtyard, as children normally do. Donna Marie shouted at them from inside because they were playing near the edge of a wall, which of course wasn't safe. But that didn't justify calling the guests' children “wild animals.” I defended them and told her she had no right to shout at them like that or call them names, and we ended up arguing. The meal was poor too. The hallumi seemed like low quality, shop-bought cheese in plastic wrapping, the olives weren't even local, and I guess the vegetables weren't either. It felt like there was no support for local produce and everything was artificial. We ended up eating only toast with butter and jam. The coffee was as bitter as the hostess. I strongly urge people to stay away from this unpleasant host and poor quality food.

The house is beautiful, peaceful and run by such warm-hearted hosts. Don't miss dinner, Donna Marie's cooking is great. Absolutely recommend it!
