Hotel Slezan

The reception staff spoke English and were very helpful. This is a very basic hotel, and the complex also has private businesses and apartments. My main gripe was the lack of tea or coffee making facilities in the room. There’s no evening bar or restaurant service either. Breakfast is continental and Czech style, but the daily boiled eggs, frankfurters and occasional baked beans got boring fast. There was plenty of cheese, cold meat, fruit and yogurt, though.

Check-in was a problem: reception is closed from 12 to 5, so the earliest you can arrive is 17:00, even though online it says 15:00. We were given just one small sample of shampoo and one of shower gel for two people, and the bedside lamp bulb was broken. The rooms and hallway smelled stale, and the walls are so thin you hear the neighbors, or can even see into their room from the shared balcony. The rooms are large but old. There are three elevators, but only one was working. It dates from 1987 and felt like it could break down any moment. The double bed was two beds pushed together that slid apart overnight. Bike hire costs 200kc per bike per day. After paying, we also found out about an extra fee of 15kc per person per day, including arrival and departure days. This should have been a two star hotel.

The staff were really nice, but the hotel itself was poor quality. The interior looks like it’s from the previous regime, and the walls are so thin you can hear the neighbors snorting. Breakfast was really poor. For what it costs, though, I’d rate it three stars.

It costs too much for the quality. The rooms are outdated, and there was mold in the bathroom. Breakfast was disappointing too: we found black boiled eggs and old cream, and the coffee was horrible. If you can, eat breakfast somewhere else. For international channels, you only get the Austrian ones.
