We came in just to get coffee. The staff seemed quite unfriendly when they greeted us, and when I asked about paying by card, they said, “We really don't take that.” I was ready to pay cash, but when I asked for a thousand-rupee note, they refused it and told me to go change it next door. The service was appalling, and I haven't been treated like that in a long time. The coffee was undrinkable too. I should've just left it there and walked out. Bad coffee could be forgiven, but the way they treated us couldn't. I can't rate it any lower, so it gets one star for the location. 1/5

For 2000 CZK a night, this place really wasn't worth it. I don't understand the high rating or the 3-star hotel label. Our room had a strange layout, with an oddly enclosed shower right in the middle, and the whole place felt like a collection of artificial flowers. From the claustrophobic hallway at the entrance to the common areas and rooms, the decor and furnishings just seemed odd. Some paintings had damaged frames, and there were artificial flowers everywhere. Sometimes less is more. The following night we paid the same price for a proper hotel, and there was no comparison.

The rooms feel surprisingly luxurious because there's so much space. They have different little corners with wardrobes, sofas, tables and armchairs, even bar stools, so there's always somewhere for a suitcase or anything else. Plenty of lamps and lights, too. The apartments are unexpectedly spacious and stylish for the price of an ordinary room, right in the center under the leaning tower. Ours even had a view of it through the skylight. The attic has wooden paneling, exposed beams, and arched ceilings upstairs. The decor mixes all sorts of things, from Asian statues to a Manchester United flag, but somehow it all hangs together and looks nice. The website photos really do show the rooms as they are. We stayed in two of them, and both matched the pictures. I imagine the others do too.

I've stayed here regularly for work trips for several years. It's now my first choice after trying various hotels and guesthouses in the area. The old building sits in central Domažlice, just off a quiet side street. The rooms are large, clean, quiet, and solidly furnished, with their own architectural character and matching furniture. It feels much nicer for working on my laptop than a standard hotel room. Otto and his wife are so kind and do their best to make sure you have what you need. The welcome is warm, and the à la carte breakfast is freshly made, tasty, and enough to start the day well. If you want a bigger meal later, there are several excellent restaurants within a 5-minute walk.
