Penzion Letohrádek

We rented space for up to 19 people for our business conference in Ostrava/Frydek Arena, Czech Republic, and the stay became a serious safety nightmare. The bungalow reeked of smoke from the wood burner when we arrived. The man who showed us the property, the only owner who spoke English, dismissed our concerns as “just a bit of smoke.” We had to leave windows and doors open to breathe, despite it being 2°C outside. Upstairs was unbearably hot, over 30°C, with smoke hanging in the air. We couldn't sleep properly and had sore throats, headaches, and nausea, then woke up freezing. I tried calling the hosts repeatedly the next day and only reached them at 9 PM. They said they'd heat the place, then lit the burner again despite knowing about the problem, assuring us there'd only be a little smoke. When we got back at 1 AM, dense smoke filled the bungalow so badly we could barely see a few meters. We feared there might be a fire, but it turned out to be their heating solution. The chimney appeared blocked, sending smoke straight inside. Our clothes, electronics, and business materials were soaked in the toxic smoke. We couldn't stay indoors, so we spent nearly an hour outside in -2°C, exhausted after the conference, with nowhere safe to rest and unable to shower or eat. We called the owners repeatedly, but they didn't answer or call back, as we had expected from earlier experience. We had no choice but to split up and find somewhere else to sleep. I dragged a smoke-tainted bed into the open breakfast room in another building. The next morning, the hosts were angry and asked why I was “in the way.” I showed them videos and photos of the smoke and explained what had happened, but they brushed it off as “not that bad” and took no responsibility. Some of our team attended the next day's conference without rest, in smoke-damaged clothes, and without a sincere apology. We felt disrespected, treated worse than animals, and put in literal danger. Our belongings were ruined, and specialized cleaning was quoted at over £100 on Monday. We sought a full refund, but the hosts replied that we had never mentioned the issue and that there was no way it could have happened. I have screenshots of 16 calls made that day with no response, videos of the smoke-filled property, and photos of the bed in the breakfast room and items taken to the specialist cleaner. I did everything I could to find a solution, but the host dismissed it as a little smoke that couldn't do any harm. We need to make sure future guests aren't exposed to this kind of danger and negligence. I considered contacting local authorities, but the language barrier and our tight conference schedule meant we focused on leaving as quickly as possible.

Beautiful, peaceful place!!!!

A beautiful building in a lovely setting, with a deep sense of history and strong energy. It has an ancestral past. It isn't a guesthouse anymore, though; it's supposed to be a renovated restaurant and Minigolf.
