Wellness Hotel Frymburk

I came for a day trip to the spa, not an overnight stay. The adults-only area has around 10 saunas and steam rooms, with three outside. There are warm plunge pools, cold and warm showers, and ice buckets too. It was glorious.

The staff aren’t friendly. “Cleaning the room” seems to mean only folding the duvet; they don’t even fit the bedsheet.

My wife and I went into the pool area, but staff stopped us right away because she wore a modest swimsuit that covered her arms and legs. They embarrassed her in front of other guests, even though there were no signs banning modest swimwear. The pool entry plaque says swimsuits must conform to the principles of decency. She wasn’t wearing everyday clothes, just a modest swimsuit that didn’t show unnecessary skin. Apparently they think “decent” means wearing a skimpy bikini. I found it discriminatory and wouldn’t recommend staying here. Leaving was also a problem because the parking ticket needed validation. The spa reception couldn’t validate it when paying by card, so I went to the hotel reception and was met with hostility and rudeness. The staff were abrupt and dismissive, starting with, “Are you a guest here or not? What do you want?” They didn’t seem to be trying to help. If basic decency and respect matter to you, avoid this place. The experience left me with a sour impression of local professionals and hospitality here.

The swimming line was great, the staff were really nice, and you do feel safe here. The wellness facilities, though, weren’t in good shape. There was no hot water in the ladies’ shower, the changing-room hair dryers didn’t work, and finding a smoking corner in the sauna area was a big shock. If you’re hoping to relax, be aware that it may be limited.
