Modrý Dům

The owner met us in person to greet us and hand over the apartment, which was a welcome change after so many contactless stays. It was clean, and there was always hot water. The kitchen had a kettle, toaster, fridge and freezer, plus an oven and some dishes. There was no hairdryer, though I expect one might be available if you ask. We also found an extra bed, probably a Dormeo, a mattress protector, spare light blankets, two towels per person, a tea towel, paper kitchen napkins, a jar, hand soap, and even slippers. The beds, sofas, and armchairs were covered with blankets, which looked great and kept them mostly out of sight. On Friday, we went to the pub at the playground, as the owner suggested. The beer was cheap, the pizza was good, and the people were nice, though we didn’t give them much chance to talk with us. We also tried the nearby Řízkárna, but they had stopped cooking an hour before closing and shut up, so call ahead. At pension Kneifel, the ice cream portions were huge, nearly three portions by our city’s standards. For lunch, the restaurant in Poříčí was excellent despite being packed: the staff were nice and busy waiters kept things moving, and even the toilets were nice. We stopped in Trutnov to shop at Tesco and Kaufland, and there’s a dm drugstore there too. On the way back, we went through Černý Důl, a great spot if you like looking at quarries and stones. We really liked staying here and would love to come back, though it’s always booked when we look for a quick, spontaneous weekend. We’re very glad we got the chance. The curtains were the only real complaint since they let quite a bit of light through and aren’t blackout like we’re used to, but we managed. It was a great stay.
