Penzion Kralicak

The location was great, with a beautiful view. I was there for a team-building stay at the beginning of January and enjoyed it to the fullest. The chef’s cooking was phenomenal, making dishes right in front of our eyes.

Breakfast was a real mess. I couldn’t figure out how the self-service setup was meant to work, and never really learned, since the bored, unhelpful employees barely spoke Czech.

The accommodation was disappointing. The bathroom was outside the room; it was clean, but the door had no lock. The room carpets were dirty, and there was no air conditioning, so the concrete gets quite hot in summer. The guesthouse offered virtually no services. The restaurant wasn’t operating, and you could only get drinks from a can or glass, at most coffee and tea. Guests could use the kitchen, dishes, stove and microwave, but if it’s self-service, they could take a cue from how some hostels run things instead of just telling people to go to the kitchen. The surroundings looked uncared for: a broken terrace with loose boards, exposed screws and nails, dirty sun loungers, peeling paint on the three terrace tables, and wires and sharp objects sticking out in several places. The architecture should be an asset, but the guesthouse is neglected and seems to be falling apart on its own. It’s sad to see a place with this much potential deteriorate. It looks as if they’re waiting for snow to cover everything and make it look cleaner. People will keep coming and paying too much even without any effort from the owners.

The pension is right on the slope, in beautiful surroundings with views of the Hynčické vrchy area. In winter, getting to the parking lot is harder, so don’t come without chains. From there, it’s about a 150 m walk to the pension. We’ve been coming for years, and things have unfortunately gone downhill. On our first visit, six years ago, the pension had full services, the ski slope was right below it, and the black run was operating. None of that is the case now. More attention and care seem to have moved to the Stříbrnická side, and we wouldn’t come here in winter.
