The place was shut when we arrived on a cold Wednesday in April. We’d come all the way from Argentina, and as fans of Švejk who are deeply interested in Jaroslav Hašek’s life, even getting to see the outside of U České Koruny felt like a big deal. We hadn’t realized it only opened Thursday through Sunday. Then Martin Hašek opened the doors for us and made his grandfather’s traditional goulash recipe. We shared three beers with him, too. I still get emotional remembering how lucky we were. It was an honor to eat Jaroslav Hašek’s favorite dish, drink his favorite beer, sit in the room he loved, and meet his family. Thinking about Hašek almost every day and admiring his work, I can say it was one of the happiest days of my life. I’m glad the place is doing so well and honoring Švejk like this. Forever in our hearts. Thank you so much, muchas gracias, and long live Dobrý Vójak Švejk!

The food was really good, though a little pricier than I expected. It’s a classic Czech menu at Hašek’s favorite pub, themed around his best-loved character, Svejk.

We spent two nights here, and the staff made us feel very welcome. The chef also found creative ways to accommodate my wife’s strict allergy requirements, and the food was great. There’s plenty to see nearby, including Lipnice castle, the White tower, the Monuments of eavesdropping, and Lipnice town. I’d recommend a weekend visit. Two days is just right for looking around.

Right in the centre, with a clean place and friendly staff. The service was really good, and the food was delicious. We had what’s shown in the picture, and the waiter recommended a super good dessert. The castle is close by, too. Definitely worth a stop, 10/10.

We had a tasty lunch and were served quickly. You can pay by card, too. It’s a nice restaurant dedicated to Jaroslav Hašek, the famous author of the Fortunes of Good Soldier Svejk.
