Horský hotel Figura

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, even though few people spoke English or German. Mr. Figura and his team went out of their way to get my car running after its battery went flat in the cold. His daughter Renata speaks perfect English and was a huge help arranging things for guests. We stayed between Christmas and New Year. The hotel sits right on a middle-grade piste, and the rooms are adequately furnished for a very reasonable price. We had half board, with a breakfast buffet and evening meal, including a great Sylvester (New Year's). Buffet and meal came to 80,- Euros per night, excellent value. The food was good, and alcohol was extremely cheap for us Westerners. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Full marks from me, and I can only recommend it. Thanks, I’ll be back...

The breakfast was actually good, so I’d give the place two stars, even though one night was enough for me. The room was bad: it wasn’t heated well enough to dry clothes, and the shower leaked onto the floor, where there was mold between the tiles and in the shower itself. It had been raining, and the area around the bathroom roof window was soaked, though the toilet worked fine. They should say how long the beds are. At 190cm, I couldn’t fit. The whole hotel needs reconstructing.

We had a really nice time. The hotel is in a great location, with other restaurants nearby if you feel like eating somewhere else. The proprietor was so kind!

The area is magnificent, and for amateur skiers like us I don’t think we could have found a better spot. It was my first winter ski holiday here with my sons, and we used the kids garden. Their ski teachers, Thomas, Elishka, and the teachers’ friends were patient, kind, and amazing. The accommodation was quite basic, but we could bring our dog. Restaurant service and prices weren’t so good, and they didn’t take card payments. We hadn’t known that in advance and didn’t have enough cash, which was difficult for us. On our last night, though, we met Thomas and his wife Dominica, members of the Figurova family. They were amazing, really nice and friendly. We had a few drinks and a good laugh together. They even offered to drive us to Bruntal to catch our train. In the end, what matters is the people and the relationships we build; the rest is secondary. They made us feel so welcome that I’m giving five stars for hospitality. We’ll definitely come back to see them.
