Pension Horiz

The owner waved us inside even though it was dark in the hotel when we arrived looking for dinner in a beautiful snowstorm. They switched the lights back on and took our order straight away. The food was delicious, service was quick and efficient, and the rustic setting suited the place. We warmed up beside the crackling fireplace and would happily return.

I’d give this a zero if I could. It was Sunday at two in the afternoon, with a “geöfnet” sign on the door and the daily menu posted beside it, so we thought we could have lunch. I waved to my husband to park, but the owner came out looking worried, then locked the glass door right in front of us without explaining anything. We were left standing there completely stunned, as if we were some kind of nuisance. Luckily, we went to the nearby Vitiška instead. It has a retro feel, but the owner is friendly and the food is delicious.

The food is tasty and fairly priced, and the current owners, a Russian man and his wife, are both friendly and helpful. I’ve stayed here overnight and visited many times under earlier ownership too. The rooms are okay for a night, but nothing special, and the bathroom facilities are absolutely unacceptable. The opening hours are another problem, they seem like a lottery.

The furniture didn’t really match, and a few loud plastic speakers on the counter were playing 90s pop, so the place felt a bit odd. The owner was very friendly, though, and the food was the main thing: super delicious and freshly prepared. One of our fellow travelers had the ham hock and really enjoyed it. It’s too far for us to come regularly, but we’ll go back if we’re in the area.
