Mercure Ostrava Center Hotel

The staff were nice, breakfast was up to standard, and even the coffee was drinkable. Guests also have a small gym and sauna. My room on the second floor was a letdown: dustmen on Privozska street woke me early, and the chair was disgustingly worn out. That doesn’t belong in a four-star hotel. Next time I might ask for a higher floor facing the patio.

I’d probably come back if I’m in the area, but only because I have Accor status. I booked this place because it was the only hotel in Ostrava where I had status. The location was reasonable thanks to public transport, with tram and bus stops outside, though Ostrava doesn’t seem to have a traditional centre and we ended up taking transit everywhere. There was no direct connection to the bus station where we arrived. It’s an old building and getting around it certainly adds to your daily steps. We booked two rooms together, but they were on completely different floors, at least a five-minute walk apart at opposite ends of the building. The hotel was pretty empty, so I’m sure they could have put them closer. The room was decent, especially the modern bathroom. The bedroom looked dated and had a very low bed, but it was comfortable enough. The bar was poor, with awful hours and a bad menu, so we went out every night. There isn’t much choice nearby either, since the city centre was empty.

The room was missing a coat hanger, but I’d still recommend this place for a business or leisure visit. It works well for a longer stay too. Breakfast has plenty to choose from, the gym is well equipped, and the sauna is available all day. You can walk to Stodolni street or the river bank. Parking is in the courtyard, though you’re not guaranteed a spot.

The room was quite large, with a comfortable bed and a window looking onto an old church. The staff were kind and helpful. It has the feel of one of those grand old hotels in the town centre. The thing that needs attention is the lack of a proper lobby. Oddly, for a place that’s mainly a business outlet, the “lobby” is just a few chairs opposite reception. Even adding a coffee table would make the space better.
