Hotel Labe

The people were very nice and the location in the city is excellent, but the rooms were low quality and the facilities need some investment. It looks like an old communist-era hotel. I didn't expect a lot given the price and quality. I tried an espresso at the restaurant, but it wasn't tasty, though it was okay if you don't expect much from coffee. The regular "kava" I had the last morning was better, which was odd. Good for the price, but they could improve things.

If you just need somewhere to sleep, this hotel is fine. The renovated rooms are only on the 11th floor, where ours was large and okay, with a comfortable bed and an adequate bathroom. Elsewhere the hotel seems untouched since the 80s, and the halls, reception, and breakfast room had a strange smell like moldy plant soil. A bat was flying around on the 11th floor, which the old man at reception apparently considered normal. Breakfast had enough choice and was okay, but the coffee was horrible. On vacation, I'd look elsewhere.

We had a great time over our five days, but you need an open mind to enjoy the place for what it is. It's got an old Soviet Union feel throughout. If you want a modern hotel, this won't suit you. There are hardly any modern conveniences: no power sockets, only a hand shower in the bathtub, and the elevators were never all working when I saw them. Internet is advertised, but it doesn't reach every area. Downstairs it worked fine, while on the 10th floor I couldn't check email in bed. Customer service is hilariously communist, and breakfast must be free for a reason. We only went down once.

I was there for three nights, Tuesday to Friday, in April 2018. Please choose somewhere else if you're visiting Pardubice. I know some people find the Soviet style charming, but there have to be limits. Parking costs extra, and I got a double room instead of a single. Its south-facing windows made it insanely hot during the day. The room was dusty and dirty, with a dead bug about 5 cm long on the curtains; who knows how long it had been there, though I suppose the daytime heat may have fried it. After a while, other little bugs running around didn't surprise me. The shower had no holder for the head, so you had to hold it, and the hose was too short to use at full height, meaning you had to bend or crouch. Brown water ran from the sink for quite a while. The old-style TV didn't work, and the bedside lamps worked but were broken. The carpet was filthy and squeaky, and the walls and ceiling were falling apart. Wi-Fi was moderate and breakfast wasn't appetizing. This is getting long, and I'm probably forgetting something. More than 50 euros a night? A joke.
