Artharmony Pension & Hostel

The hostel looks pretty, but the beds were full of bed bugs. My partner and I were bitten so many times that we couldn’t get a decent night’s sleep. When we told the receptionist, she laughed and brushed us off.

The only real plus is the location. The room looks cool, but the sheets and pillows were filthy, the plywood beds were awful, and the bathrooms were horrendously dirty. The staff were pretty rude too.

The room was huge, and the location made it easy to get to the tours we had planned. I liked the bright, fun decor, which brought Bali to mind. Some areas were dusty, though, and I have dust allergies. I took an allergy pill and felt better, so I’m taking off a star for that.

We stayed four nights and had to ask reception four times for fresh towels, an emptied bin, and maybe clean sheets. They kept saying housekeeping would take care of it, but it never happened. The place also had dampness and mold, and parts of the interior were broken with wires sticking out. That might have some charm if the service were good, but it wasn’t. Staff were often nowhere to be found. We had agreed on a 1 p.m. checkout, but the personnel had left for the day. We couldn’t get answers to our questions, and even the fridge with beer for sale was locked with nobody around. It has the feel of a backpacker spot in Asia, which I liked, but it had none of the service that makes those places work. I wouldn’t recommend it or come back.
