EA Hotel Populus

Breakfast was decent, but the staff spoke neither Russian nor English, so I don't know why I was expected to understand their language. Getting to the city center also meant taking two different types of transport. We booked a month ahead, and the reservation clearly said standard room with a double bed. Instead, we got an awful, freezing room with separated beds and a filthy bathroom. When we complained, they said only “comfort” rooms have double beds, which is completely unacceptable. After a long argument, they moved us to a “comfort” room the next day. On the fourth day, we asked for clean towels. They said towels are changed every four days, but still didn't replace them. I don't recommend this hotel.

I live in Prague and came here for breakfast. It was very good, with quite a lot of variety. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, a nice alternative to the busy city cafes 🏙️

The location was the one good thing. The next morning I was told my dog couldn't come into the dining room, so I couldn't have breakfast inside and had to go elsewhere. I found that unfair after the hotel had allowed my dog to stay overnight. It had been advertised as pet-friendly. There were extra charges at check-in that hadn't appeared in the booking price, even though I'd paid in advance. The rooms, especially the bathrooms, were quite dirty. Staff seemed welcoming at first, but the stay was disappointing and I wouldn't recommend it. This was my fourth negative experience with Russian-speaking hotel staff in Prague. In hotels with Czech-speaking staff, things have always gone smoothly for me, with friendly service, much better conditions and no hidden charges. I found this hotel neither hospitable nor transparent, and regret booking it.

We left after about an hour and checked into another hotel near the old town. It felt much safer and was infinitely cleaner. I booked this place as part of a £99 wowcher package holiday and had no say in choosing the hotel. As soon as we saw the room, it was clear that's where the money hadn't gone. There was no lock to secure the room, the furniture was old and uncomfortable, there was no TV, and the toilet rocked when you sat on it because it wasn't seated properly. Road and neighbor noise was loud, and hygiene and cleanliness were shocking. While trying to plug in my phone and looking for another hotel, I put my hand through what seemed to be a spiderweb with hair. That was the last straw. I've traveled all over the world and stayed in budget hotels in developing countries, and this was by far the dirtiest, least safe hotel I've ever checked into.
