We came for the Halušky and weren’t disappointed. There’s an interesting range of them, and they were very good. The spinach version wasn’t green like I’d expect in Slovakia. The staff were really nice, and the restaurant and hotel have lots of interesting historical items from Czechoslovakia. They close at 8, but the website hasn’t been updated, and they only take cash. Still, five stars for the meal.

The garden is a nice spot for dinner, and the Halušky really are among the best west of the Morava river. The place itself feels a little sleepy. I changed my rating from 4 stars to 1 after the public response to my positive review. I’ve never had such a negative reply, even after leaving a negative review. They wrote, “🤣 a jinak jste zdráv?” which means asking if I’m crazy or mentally ill. Calling customers crazy in public is unacceptable.

The meal felt fairly priced, especially when you consider you’re also getting a look around a historical museum. The portions of Tatarak, or raw meat, are pretty good, and that was my personal favorite. The restaurant is recommended as the best place for Halušky. If you don’t know the dish, think of a very salty carbonara. It’s almost like a museum, with news on the walls about major moments in Prague, including “Hitler is in Prague” and martial law after Heydrich, the Nazi murderer, was killed. The dining room, hallways, and every corner have a historical feel.

Ridiculous. They hang up on you, and it seems foreigners aren’t welcome. The hotel staff don’t speak English. I guess this place is only for Czech people.

The beer was mostly good, that much was reliable, though they never seemed to like pouring it. We practically had the restaurant to ourselves back when smoking was still allowed, but even a little smoke seemed to drive the waiter mad. Getting a beer meant asking insistently, sometimes practically begging. I may have got food poisoning once after their famous halushi dumplings. I felt really sick afterward. They should close the restaurant and just run it as a hotel. Nobody should have to feel like their presence is bothering the staff. Howgh!
