Hostel Bonvolon

The location was really convenient, within walking distance of all the tourist areas. The rooms were decent sized and spacious enough for families, and the service was great. Big thanks to Hondza for making our visit pleasant!

We’d already paid for the room, but on arrival they asked us for a $99AUD deposit. They said it would be returned before we left, but it never was. We stayed Saturday night and checked out at 10 am Sunday. The bed was in bad shape and noisy, and we told them about it. We had a flight and couldn’t sleep all night, but they didn’t seem to care. We’ve called and emailed about the deposit, and they haven’t replied to our email. Please, if you can see this review, return our money. Can you help us reach them or suggest another way to get the money back? Thank you.

In early May 2025, I stayed in room 403 at Bonvolon and found bed bugs. A few nights into my stay, I began waking up covered in bites, then saw the bugs myself. I took photos and videos. I told the property right away, and they agreed to refund me, but also accused me of bringing the bugs in. That felt completely inappropriate and upsetting. I’d spent weeks traveling before Prague and had no such problems in the clean, well-maintained places where I stayed. The experience caused a lot of distress: I lost sleep, worried about my health, and spent time and money deep-cleaning all my belongings. No one should have to deal with that. I’m sharing this to help others make an informed choice, and I hope the property takes the issue seriously for future guests’ safety and comfort. At first glance, the hostel seemed basic but manageable. The building was old, the furnishings dated, the staff polite, and the location fairly central.

You can reach most historical sites without public transport because the hostel is so close to the city center. Before check-in, though, the staff asked for a €50 deposit in case anything was broken or lost. They would only take it using a physical bank card with a PIN, with no cash or contactless option and no clear explanation. They also took my card to check my name, which made me uncomfortable. I asked to pay cash, but they insisted on card only. The whole deposit process was confusing and inconvenient.
