Hostel Ibex

The hostel was cozy, with lovely wall art, and I enjoyed my stay overall. Staff are there 24/7 and willing to help, prices are cheap, and it's just outside the center, so it was quiet. There's a kitchen for simple cooking, and you can buy local Czech beer and water. The three-level bunk beds are practical. A couple of things to watch for: the bottom bunk on the right as you enter the mixed dorm had a broken support beam, which I only noticed when I got up early to leave on my last day in Prague. Also, if staff say reception will be empty, the main door will be locked. I got out by climbing through a first-floor window, which was easy enough, since it was either that or miss my flight and buy another ticket. It was my first night in Prague, and despite those issues, I loved the experience and will come back.

I had a great stay and would recommend it for a short, inexpensive visit to Prague. The rooms did get a bit too warm, and cleaning the showers and bathroom around 9 in the morning meant it happened just as people were waking up and looking for a shower. Our room's toilet was broken, so we had to use the public ones. There were only three in the whole hostel.

The beds were pretty comfortable and clean, and the location worked well, close to the train and bus station. We could reach the places we wanted with one bus. It felt like a big, crowded student dorm, though I guess that's what a hostel is. There was no shampoo or hairdryer, and the showers were set up for three people with no curtains.

The only thing I can credit this hostel for is being close to the central station. After staying in dozens of cities across Europe, this was the worst hostel I've been to. I'm giving it one star only because zero wasn't available. For roughly 50 people across eight rooms with six to eight beds each, there were only two washrooms, so mornings meant long waits. The taps had no hot water. The property details said breakfast was served, but none was provided on 3 January, and no explanation was given. The staff were rude and discourteous. The rooms had no locks and guests weren't given keys, there were no safes, and there was nowhere to store luggage. It felt unsafe. The beds were extremely uncomfortable, and there was barely any breathing space.
